Pool Luck Runs Low....We blanked AGAIN!

Out of 81 picks we got zilch on the draw this Wednesday evening.

The spreadsheet correctly predicted that the greatest chance of the even-odd spread on the white balls would be 3 even 2 odd. So 29 of our picks were that flavor. It also got the sum of the first five in the right range (128). We had 8 picks that got two numbers right in different combinations - but the randomization just didn't pick up that third or fourth number we needed for a win. Oddly, we blanked on the powerball too - even though the spreadsheet did pick it as one of the 21 possibilities for a pick. Again, it just didn't get picked up in the randomized sort. Sorry folks, but that's the way the balls bounce (literally.)

All fall break proceeds have now been used up - so if the nobody wins the jackpot this Saturday - we'll need to collect participation dues for next Wednesday's draw which could be well over $100 million by then.

There are a few members who do have banked funds remaining from previous payments. Those members will need not tender dues. Check in with me, if you aren't sure who you are.

Bah Humbug! Pool Blanks on Dec. 20th Draw

Out of 56 number picks we won nothing this evening - blanking on the Powerball and only picking up a couple of white ball hits.

Excuses for our poor showing this evening? The sum of the first five was 81 - way below the predicted lower range of 107 - and we had four even and one odd on the white balls. The spreadsheet predicted this combination was very low in likelihood of occurring and only gave us 3 picks that were 4 even - 1 odd on the white balls.

Nobody won the jackpot so it now climbs to $65 million with a $31.6 million payout for Saturday's draw. Of course if no one wins then it will be our shot to be millionaires next Wednesday the 27th.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas Break Draw is ON !

No jackpot winners posted for Saturday's Dec. 16th draw - so the jackpot now climbs to $53 million with a cash payout of about $26 million.

We still have money left over for about 84 free picks from our Fall break winnings - plus $27 that we won from the last draw. So if we divide up the earnings we'll have about 45 free number sets for the draw on the 20th and the next one on the 27th. We return to school on the 3rd which is a Wednesday and we can collect funds then for that draw if needed.

Pool Wins $27: Jackpot Reset

We won $27 this Wednesday night matching the Powerball only on 3 different number sets. The draw was way out of whack with the sum of the first five being a super low 50 – the lowest sum for the entire year. But the spreadsheet did predict a majority even/odd ratio of 3/2 and correctly picked the number 8 among the white balls twelve times even though it was the only ball in the past 20 draws to be picked 5 times among those draws.

The $27 will go back into the pot to buy more number picks in the future. Someone in North Carolina got all six numbers right - so the jackpot is reset to $15 million.

The good news is that we still have one “free ride” left from the proceeds of our fall break big win. Watch this space for updates.

No Jackpot Winners in Saturday Drawing...Our Turn!

We had no winning number sets for the Nov. 22nd drawing. The closest was matching two of the first five - which in this game means nada! We also blanked on the powerball as well - which was too bad because the multipler was 5.

No jackpot winners posted for the Saturday, Nov.25th drawing so the pool is in for this upcoming Wednesday drawing on the 29th. Jackpot sits at $74 million with a cash payout of approximately $36 million.

Fall Break Pool Members Percentage Increases

If you banked funds with us over the Fall break then your contribution percentage - and subsequent payout if we win big increases because the group voted to take what we won over the break and buy more tickets. Since it's essentially your money that's doing that - you get the benefit if we win a significant amount.

New $2 or $5 members who decide to join us aren't eligible for the same benefit but will still receive a percentage equal to their contribution percentage to the whole in the event of significant win.

November 1st, 2006 Draw
We won $16 total for this draw. The jackpot was won in two different states (the winners will split the prize) and the jackpot will also get reset to $15 million now. The pool will not participate in the draw again - unless the majority votes otherwise - until the jackpot is near or above $50 million. We have $337 in the piggy bank now based on our fall break wins and a vote is up before the group on how this money should be used in the future.

From Riches to Rags! October 25th drawing is a bust...
The lottery picking spreadsheet just can't make any kind of accurate prediction when we get a wierd draw like this one. The winning numbers were: 16-40-42-43-48 Powerball 1. First, the draw doesn't very often produce three numbers within the same 10 count, but FOUR? That's really strange. Since they were in the 40s too, that busted over our sum range of 99 to 176 - 75% of the sums of all the last draws in 2006 fit that pattern. This one came in at a high sum of 189. We also completely missed the Powerball too. The spreadsheet did however, once again spot on pick that there would be 4 even and 1 odd number as the best chance for the first five.

Better news is that I cashed in our winning tickets in from our last stellar performance in the draw a week ago. I walked out of QT rather nervously with $195 in my pocket - using the difference to pay for today's draw - and then taking the banked remainder to clip together $321 which we will distribute among the members.

Nobody else won jackpot either this evening across the nation with the jackpot payout now at over $38 million. If we don't have a winner this weekend - will certainly be near or above $45 million when we play again next Wednesday. Watch this space for updates.
Lottery Software Updated...YIPPEEE!
The most tedious part of managing our numbers for the pool is having to take the 60+ number sets we have on a regular basis - then manually type them into the software on the computer that lets me print out the playslips. I was just telling Anna the other day, "I wish the software had import capabilities...." Which would mean that I could take the numbers that Excel generates and directly import them into the playslip printing software.

As I prepared the numbers for this evening the printing software notified me that an update was available.....could it be what I was wishing for? BINGO!!! There's an import-export button now! Importing the 63 number sets we have was a 5 minute process ! If this luck continues we are bound to hit it BIG soon!

How Are Pool Earnings and Distributions Calculated?
If you are interested in seeing how the spreadsheet calculates how much each member gets when we do win a significant payout you can view that portion of the spreadsheet that does the calculation by clicking on this link: Payout Calculator (You may need to login or create a Google account to view the calculator.)

The calculator bases payout information on the current jackpot level. Good Karma!

Pool Wins $321 and is ONE number away from winning $600,000!

In our first participatory draw in about a month, we won $321 on October 18th with only two numbers sets! The winning first five numbers were: 2-24-34-41-48 and one of our sets was: 2-24-41-44-48! We earned $100 on that number set (odds 1 in 14,000+ !) but because we bought the multiplier which turned up 3x those earning increased to $300. If we had 34 in that series? We would have won $200,000 that would have then been tripled to $600,000 because of the multiplier. We missed on the powerball - but if that one had come up too in that series? JACKPOT!!! Nobody else won the jackpot which now climbs to $59 million. We don't participate in weekend draws so if no one wins this Saturday, we're back in for the draw on Wednesday, October 25th. No doubt the jackpot will be close to $70 million by then.

The current plan for the $321 is to do our first ever distribution of earnings to the pool members! I'll round the figures to the lowest dollar to make things easier and deposit the rest into the pool bank. For $5 members the payout will be $12. For $2 members it will be $4.
